With new and enhanced ways to communicate with CMA parents, I realize I have not maintained my blog!Apologies, but my frequent phone Connect Ed and the new parent e-mailings have made me feel in touch this year. However, as the first quarter is completed, I think it worth highlighting some of our accomplishments since August 25, 2009
*NEW INITIATIVE - student led conferences being prepared for November 2nd and 3rd - see our website homepage for info on how to attend!
*our new faculty is thriving: Ms. Davis’ students (Spanish) had the highest benchmark scores in DPS recently! Mr. Whitley ‘s students in pre-Calculus and Algebra 2(Math) report they “get” math now and their scores are rising! Mr. Lamb’s students (Science)most recently had a unit assessment test where they scored at 100% proficiency!Ms. Terry (Media and Technology) is revolutionizing our Cybrary and workingwith a team to develop a grant for 21st century resources!

*a cohort of seniorsis enrolled this first semester in Durham Tech. college credit classes, whilecompleting out their high school graduation requirements
*to date our 40seniors have 50 college applications in process and counting! ECU and NCCUcollege campus trips are planned before the winter break, with a junior spring trip in the works
*juniors are about tobegin their clinical rotations at the VA, various medical sites and the RoseManor long-term care facility
*freshmen andsophomores will participate in the upcoming November 2nd Health Fairat Duke Hospital
*our PTSA has movedthe General meeting to Saturdays with much success and much increasedparticipation! The next meeting is Saturday, November 14th where twonurses will present about their work and careers
*HOSA (HealthOccupations Student Association) is thriving, with students attending the leadershipconference and going to state competition this semester
*November 12, theSuperintendent’s Business Advisory Council visits our school; November 15 isthe DPS Magnet Fair, with prospective parents visiting CMA on December 8. December1 is the upcoming visitation day by other medical/health schools in the stateto our site
*multipleprofessional development opportunities have already been taken advantage ofthis first quarter, with teachers participating in AP training, collaborationtraining and more! Our early release days are spent with teachers working incollaborative teams looking at student learning outcomes in order to figure out how to improve them!
